Dishwasher cover, part of your Smart Plan

Add your dishwasher to a Smart Plan and, if it breaks down, we arrange the repair with parts and labour included up to £225 per appliance in each 12-month period. A service plan, not insurance. Get a call back to set it up.

What is dishwasher cover?

Dishwasher cover adds your dishwasher to a Smart Plan service plan, so if it breaks down we arrange the repair, with parts and labour included up to £225 per appliance. You set it up on a free call back: nothing is set up and no payment is taken online.

Your dishwasher is listed on your cover sheet under appliance cover, and appliance cover applies only to the appliances listed there. In our terms, a breakdown means the complete failure of the appliance, at which point you can request a call-out.

Smart Plan comes from UK Boiler Company Ltd, trading since 2014. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all: build your own cover and pick only what you want, from a single dishwasher to every appliance in the kitchen.

What dishwasher cover includes

When your dishwasher is listed on your cover sheet, dishwasher breakdown cover includes:

  • Breakdown repairs when your dishwasher completely stops working
  • Parts and labour, up to £225 per appliance in each 12-month period, counted from the day your plan starts
  • If we estimate the dishwasher can't be economically repaired, or the parts aren't available, a contribution towards a replacement: the lower of its retail value (including installation) or what's left of your cover limit
  • Access to the vetted engineers and tradespeople we work with

Want your dishwasher covered?

Leave your details and we aim to call you back within one working day, Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00. Add your washing machine or fridge freezer on the same call if you like. Nothing is set up and no payment is taken online.

Is dishwasher cover worth it for you?

Dishwasher cover suits you if your dishwasher is out of its manufacturer's warranty and you'd struggle to do without it. Parts and labour are included up to £225 per appliance in each 12-month period, and if it can't be economically repaired you get a contribution towards a replacement.

It suits a brand new dishwasher less well. Manufacturer defects are excluded from our cover, and your consumer rights against the retailer may already apply. It also isn't for a dishwasher that has already stopped working, because a fault that exists before your plan starts isn't covered.

Before you decide, weigh up the £95 call-out fee in the first 30 days and the 12-month agreement period that begins once you request a service. Both are explained below, so there are no surprises.

What is not covered

So there are no surprises, these are the exclusions most likely to matter for a dishwasher. The full list, including the general exclusions in section 10, is in our terms and conditions.

  • A fault that was already there before your plan started, and repairing a defect we've already identified on the dishwasher
  • Damage caused during delivery
  • A dishwasher that hasn't been installed or maintained in line with regulations or the manufacturer's instructions
  • Problems with the supply of electricity or water, rather than a fault with the dishwasher itself
  • Routine maintenance, cleaning and servicing, such as cleaning out the filter
  • Perishable parts, such as seals and filters
  • Faults caused by scale deposits (limescale), rust or corrosion
  • Faults caused by a build-up of fat or oil
  • Adjusting settings or resetting the dishwasher
  • Faults caused by misuse, negligence or someone else interfering with the dishwasher
  • Manufacturer defects
  • Faults caused by newly installed equipment, or by freezing
  • Costs from not being able to use the dishwasher, such as hiring a replacement
  • Cosmetic damage to paintwork, dents or scratches, and damage to a display
  • Theft, attempted theft, neglect, deliberate damage, or damage caused by animals, plants or trees
  • A dishwasher you don't own, or one outside the main building, such as in a garage or annex
  • A dishwasher that is a shared or communal facility
  • Reasonable damage if we need to remove housing, boxing in or fitted units to reach an integrated dishwasher
  • Making good afterwards, such as decorative finishes or relaying floors, unless it's due to our negligence

Leaking inlet hoses are plumbing cover, not appliance cover

The hot and cold water inlet flexible pipes that feed your dishwasher sit under plumbing cover in our terms, not appliance cover. A leak from one of those hoses is a plumbing repair.

If a leaking hose is the bigger worry, ask for plumbing cover on the same call as your dishwasher. A dishwasher that won't drain often has a blocked filter, and clearing it is routine cleaning that appliance cover doesn't include, so our guide to unblocking a dishwasher is worth a look first.

Before you set up dishwasher cover

Cover is for breakdowns after your plan starts. If your dishwasher is already showing a fault, our terms treat it as a defect that existed before the plan began, and works to repair a defect we identify aren't covered. The best time to set up cover is while the dishwasher is working.

In the first 30 days of a new plan, any call-out has a £95 call-out fee, paid before we attend, plus payment in advance for any additional works.

If your dishwasher is new, check whether it's still under the manufacturer's warranty, because manufacturer defects are excluded from our cover. Your rights over a faulty new appliance are set out on GOV.UK.

Fees, call-out hours and the agreement period

A £95 call-out fee applies to any call-out in the first 30 days of a new plan. It also applies when the fault turns out to fall under an exclusion. Where possible, we tell you the cost of the work needed first, and you pay for it in advance. If our engineer can't get access at the agreed time, a £95 no-access fee applies, which needs settling before any other services are done.

Unless it's an emergency breakdown, call-outs are carried out Monday to Friday, between 08:00 and 18:00. When you request a repair, we aim to get an engineer out to you within two working days. Please make sure the engineer can reach the dishwasher, as they won't move your belongings unless this is agreed beforehand.

Your plan is monthly rolling. Once you request a service, a 12-month agreement period begins and you pay 12 months of payments, subject to the cancellation terms. You have a 14-day cooling-off period from the start, but it ends if we carry out a service at your request in that time.

A service plan, not insurance

Smart Plan is a service plan, not insurance. Our terms say so plainly: the agreement is for us to provide specific services, at our sole discretion, which for a dishwasher means repairing it when it breaks down, as long as it's listed on your cover sheet.

So when a covered dishwasher breaks down, there's no paperwork to get money back. You request a repair and we arrange the engineer, with parts and labour included up to £225 per appliance.

Cover more than one appliance on the same call

Appliance cover is per appliance, and each appliance listed on your cover sheet has its own cover limit of £225 per appliance. If your washing machine and fridge freezer matter as much as the dishwasher, add them on the same call back.

You can also add plumbing cover for the inlet hoses, or cover for other parts of your home. You only pay for what you choose.

Quick checks before you request a repair

Check the dishwasher is switched on at the socket, the door is shut and latched, and the water tap feeding it is turned on. Your manual's troubleshooting section is worth a look too. Supply problems and resetting the machine aren't covered, so these checks can save you a call-out fee.

Never open up the dishwasher's electrics yourself. Dishwashers run on electricity and water, so leave any electrical repair to a qualified engineer.

Dishwasher cover FAQs

What does dishwasher cover include?

Dishwasher cover includes breakdown repairs to your dishwasher, with parts and labour included up to £225 per appliance in each 12-month period. If it can't be economically repaired, you get a contribution towards a replacement, up to what's left of your cover limit.

Is dishwasher cover worth it?

It suits a dishwasher that is out of its manufacturer's warranty and that you'd struggle to do without, because parts and labour are included up to £225 per appliance. It suits a brand new dishwasher less well, because manufacturer defects are excluded and your consumer rights against the retailer may already apply. Weigh up the £95 call-out fee in the first 30 days and the 12-month agreement period once you use a service.

What happens if my dishwasher can't be repaired?

If we estimate a repair would cost more than the dishwasher is worth, or the parts aren't available, we give you a contribution towards a replacement. It's the lower of the dishwasher's retail value (including installation) or what's left of your cover limit after any work we've already done.

Is an integrated dishwasher covered?

Yes, if it's listed on your cover sheet. If we need to remove housing, boxing in or fitted units to reach it, reasonable damage caused doing that isn't covered, and neither is making good afterwards, such as decorative finishes or relaying floors, unless it's due to our negligence.

Can I get cover for a dishwasher that has already stopped working?

No. Cover is for breakdowns after your plan starts. A fault that exists before the plan begins counts as a defect in our terms, and works to repair a defect we identify aren't covered. Set up cover while your dishwasher is working.

Is a leaking dishwasher hose covered?

The hot and cold water inlet flexible pipes that feed a dishwasher are covered under plumbing cover, not appliance cover. You can add plumbing cover to your plan on the same call.

Are seals, filters and limescale covered?

No. Seals and filters are perishable parts, which our terms exclude, and cleaning out a filter is routine maintenance. Faults caused by scale deposits (limescale), rust or corrosion are excluded too, and so are faults caused by a build-up of fat or oil.

Is there a call-out fee?

A £95 call-out fee applies to call-outs in the first 30 days of a new plan, paid before we attend, and to faults that fall under an exclusion. If our engineer can't get access at the agreed time, a £95 no-access fee applies.

Can I change my mind?

Yes. You have a 14-day cooling-off period from the start of your plan, when you can cancel with a full refund of anything you've paid. It ends if we carry out a service at your request in that time. If you cancel during a 12-month agreement period, you either pay the rest of the agreement period monthly or pay three quarters of the outstanding balance of the agreement period as a one-off payment.
