Washing Machine Cover
Add your washing machine to a Smart Plan. If it breaks down, request a repair and we'll arrange an engineer, with parts and labour included up to £225 per appliance.
What is washing machine cover?
Washing machine cover is part of Smart Plan appliance cover. You add your washing machine to your plan, and it's listed on your cover sheet. If it breaks down, you request a repair and we arrange for an engineer to come out to you. In our terms, a breakdown means the machine has completely stopped working.
Washing machine breakdown cover through Smart Plan includes parts and labour up to a cover limit of £225 per appliance for each 12-month period. You only pay for the appliances you choose, so you can cover just the washing machine or add your other kitchen appliances too.
Smart Plan is a modular home-cover plan from UK Boiler Company Ltd, trading since 2014. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all: build your own cover and pick only what you want.
What washing machine cover includes
When your washing machine is listed on your cover sheet, appliance cover includes:
- Repairs when your washing machine breaks down (stops working completely)
- Parts and labour, up to £225 per appliance for each 12-month period
- If we estimate the machine can't be economically repaired, a contribution towards a replacement: the lower of its retail value (including installation) or what's left of your cover limit
- Access to a national network of thousands of vetted engineers and tradespeople we work with
What isn't covered
So there are no surprises, these are the main exclusions for washing machines. The full list, including the general exclusions in section 10, is in our terms and conditions.
- Perishable parts, such as seals and filters
- Manufacturer defects
- Adjusting settings or resetting the machine
- Faults caused by misuse, negligence or someone else interfering with the machine
- Faults caused by newly installed equipment
- Faults caused by scale deposits (limescale), rust or corrosion
- Faults caused by freezing
- A machine you don't own
- Repairing a defect we've already identified on the machine
- Damage caused during delivery
- A machine that hasn't been installed or maintained in line with regulations or the manufacturer's instructions
- Problems with the supply of electricity or water, rather than a fault with the machine itself
- Routine maintenance, cleaning and servicing
- Costs from not being able to use the machine, such as hiring a replacement
- Cosmetic damage to paintwork, dents or scratches, and damage to a display, such as a cracked screen
- Theft, attempted theft, neglect, deliberate damage, or damage caused by animals, plants or trees
- Reasonable damage if we need to remove housing, boxing in or fitted units to reach an integrated machine
Leaking inlet hoses are plumbing cover
The hot and cold water inlet flexible pipes that feed your washing machine sit under plumbing cover, not appliance cover. If a leak from those hoses is a worry, you can add plumbing cover to your plan alongside your washing machine.

A service plan, not insurance
If you're looking for insurance for your washing machine, note that Smart Plan is a service plan, not insurance, so it isn't the same as washing machine insurance. Our terms state that the agreement is not a contract of insurance. It's an agreement to repair the appliances listed on your cover sheet when they break down.
When a covered washing machine breaks down, you request a repair and we arrange the engineer, with parts and labour included up to your cover limit.
How to request a repair
Before you call, check the machine is switched on at the socket, the door is fully closed and the water supply is on. Your manual's troubleshooting section is also worth a look. Supply problems aren't covered, so these checks can save you a call-out fee.
If it still won't work, get in touch and we aim to get an engineer out to you within two working days. Call-outs are carried out Monday to Friday, between 08:00 and 18:00, unless it's an emergency breakdown. Please make sure the engineer can reach the machine, as they won't move your belongings unless this is agreed beforehand.
The £95 call-out fee and your agreement
A £95 call-out fee applies to any call-out in the first 30 days of a new plan, paid before we attend (your cover still applies). It also applies when a fault turns out to fall under an exclusion. Where possible, we'll give you a quote for any work that isn't covered before it's done. If our engineer can't get access at the agreed time, a £95 no-access fee applies, which needs settling before any other services are done.
Your plan is monthly rolling. Once you use a service, a 12-month agreement period begins, and leaving early during that period means paying the remaining months or 75% of the outstanding balance. It's worth choosing the cover that's right for you.
Washing machine cover FAQs
How much does washing machine cover pay for a repair?
Parts and labour are included up to a cover limit of £225 per appliance for each 12-month period, starting from when your plan begins.
What happens if my washing machine can't be repaired?
If we estimate a repair would cost more than the machine is worth, or the parts aren't available, we give you a contribution towards a replacement. It's the lower of the machine's retail value (including installation) or what's left of your cover limit after any work we've already done.
Does washing machine cover include leaking hoses?
The hot and cold water inlet flexible pipes are covered under plumbing cover rather than appliance cover. You can add plumbing cover to your plan as well.
Is an integrated washing machine covered?
Yes, if it's listed on your cover sheet. If we need to remove housing, boxing in or fitted units to reach it, reasonable damage caused doing that isn't covered.
Is a worn door seal or blocked filter covered?
No. Seals and filters are perishable parts, which our terms exclude. Cleaning, such as clearing a filter, is routine maintenance and isn't covered either.
Can I cover other appliances too?
Yes. Appliance cover is per appliance, so you can add your washing machine on its own or add other appliances as well. Each one has its own £225 cover limit.
Is there a call-out fee?
A £95 call-out fee applies to call-outs in the first 30 days of a new plan, paid before we attend, and to faults that fall under an exclusion. Your cover still applies during the first 30 days. If our engineer can't get access at the agreed time, a £95 no-access fee applies.
