Smart Plan cover terms at a glance

The terms behind every cover answer below. Smart Plan is a service plan from UK Boiler Company Ltd (company 09078640), not insurance, so it does not carry insurance-style protections.

  • Cover limits per 12-month period: up to £500 on most modules, £225 per appliance, and boiler and central heating up to £500 when the boiler is under 7 years old or up to £200 when it is 7 years or older. You pay any shortfall above the limit.
  • Cover-plan call-outs run Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00. If your boiler fails outside those hours, the earliest we can attend is the next working day.
  • A £95 call-out fee, paid in advance, applies in defined cases: any call-out in the first 30 days of a new agreement, issues that fall under an exclusion, visits where our engineer cannot get access, and early annual-service requests. The first 30 days is a fee window, not a gap in cover.
  • An annual service is not automatically included in cover, so arrange one separately unless your product includes it.
  • One-off works run 09:00 to 17:00 and do not carry a workmanship guarantee, so they are not the same as cover.
  • Billing is monthly, but a 12-month agreement period begins once you use a service. A 14-day cooling-off period applies from sign-up and ends if a service is carried out inside it.
  • Leaving during the agreement period costs the remaining monthly payments, or 75% of the outstanding balance as a one-off.
  • Exclusions apply and are set out in our terms and conditions.

Vaillant boiler FAQs

Are Vaillant boilers any good?

We do not rank brands, but Vaillant is a long established German heating manufacturer whose ranges are among the most widely fitted in the UK, so parts are easy to source. Which model suits you depends on your home rather than the badge: hot water demand, radiator count and available space all matter. Read the individual model reviews linked on this page, then compare output and warranty terms before you commit.

Which Vaillant boiler is right for my home?

Start with your hot water demand, not the model name. A one-bathroom flat with a handful of radiators usually needs a much smaller combi than a four-bedroom house with two bathrooms. Ask a Gas Safe registered engineer to size the boiler from your radiators, water flow rate and mains pressure, then use the model reviews above to compare the ranges that fit.

How long is the warranty on a Vaillant boiler?

Warranty length varies by model and by who fits it, so check the terms supplied with your own boiler. Vaillant publishes the current periods on its website, and registered installer schemes can extend cover on some ranges. Registration is usually required within a set window after installation, and annual servicing is normally a condition, so deal with both promptly.

Do Vaillant boilers need an annual service?

Yes, an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer is the sensible baseline, and manufacturer warranties normally require one to stay valid. A service checks combustion, seals, pressure and safety devices, and it often catches wear before it turns into a breakdown. Keep the paperwork, because you may be asked for proof if you claim under a Vaillant warranty. An annual service is not automatically part of a Smart Plan cover plan, so book it separately.

What should I do if my Vaillant boiler shows a fault code?

Note the code on the display first, then look it up before touching anything else. Many Vaillant codes point at low pressure, a blocked condensate pipe or a sensor fault, and some clear after a reset. Our Vaillant help section explains the common codes in plain English. If the code comes back, book a Gas Safe registered engineer rather than resetting repeatedly.

Does Smart Plan cover a Vaillant boiler?

Yes. Vaillant boilers are covered alongside other domestic gas boilers under the boiler and central heating module. Cover contributes towards parts and labour up to £500 in a 12-month period if your boiler is under 7 years old, or £200 if it is 7 years or older, and you pay anything above that. Call-outs run Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00. Full cover terms are set out on this page.
