Intergas boiler fault codes: full list and what to do
Intergas prints its fault code tables inside its installation manuals rather than on its website, so these codes are hard to look up. Find your range first, then your code, then the safe next step. Smart Plan cover is a capped service plan, not insurance, and the cover limits and call-out fee are set out below.
What do Intergas fault codes mean?
An Intergas fault code is a lockout code: the boiler has detected a problem, stopped, and put a number on the display so an engineer can see what it found. Most Intergas codes point at a temperature sensor, the fan, the flue, the gas valve or the flame signal, and nearly all of them are engineer work. A small handful, mainly low water pressure, air in the radiators, a frozen condensate pipe and a blocked flue terminal, you can safely check yourself first.
We could not find a fault code list anywhere on Intergas's consumer pages. Its troubleshooting page points you towards booking a repair rather than explaining what a code means. Every meaning below is taken from Intergas's own installation manuals: the Xtreme installation manual, the Xclusive installation manual, the Combi Compact HRE installation instructions, the Combi Compact ECO RF installation instructions, the Intergas Rapid installation manual and the Compact HRE OV installation instructions. They are free to download from the product literature section of the Intergas website.
There are two code schemes. The Xtreme 24, 30 and 36 and the Xclusive 24, 30 and 36 show three-digit codes with an F prefix. The Combi Compact HRE, Combi Compact ECO RF, Rapid and Compact HRE OV ranges show one- and two-digit numbers instead. People often drop the leading zeros when they search or type a code, so F1 usually means F001 and F31 usually means F031, but Intergas always prints the padded three-digit form.
One thing gets reported wrongly all over the web, so it is worth stating plainly: the two-digit numbers mean the same thing across all four of those ranges. The HRE, ECO RF, Rapid and Compact HRE OV manuals all group 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 under a single fault, and all group 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 under a single fault. A 12 is not a different fault from a 14. The only real differences are that the HRE, ECO RF and Rapid tables carry two codes the Compact HRE OV table does not: 0.0 and 5.
The gaps are deliberate. F013, F017, F020 to F026 and F030 are not labelled in either the Xtreme or the Xclusive installation manual, so they are left out here rather than guessed at.
Key facts
The short version before you scroll:
- Xtreme and Xclusive boilers show F-codes. Intergas labels 22 of them between F000 and F031, and a fault is signalled by a flashing service symbol with the code on the left display.
- HRE, ECO RF, Rapid and Compact HRE OV boilers show one- and two-digit numbers, and those numbers mean the same thing on all four ranges.
- Low water pressure, air in the radiators, a frozen outside condensate pipe and a blocked flue terminal are the only checks that are genuinely homeowner work. None of them mean opening the boiler casing.
- Anything involving gas, flame, the burner, the fan, a sensor or the PCB is a job for a Gas Safe registered engineer.

- Smart Plan is a service plan, not insurance. On the boiler and central heating module, parts and labour are included up to £500 a year if your boiler is under 7 years old, or up to £200 a year if it is over 7. These are annual limits shared across every fault in the 12-month period, so a larger repair can cost more than the cover pays and you would cover the difference.
- Cover-plan call-outs run Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00, with genuine emergencies, as defined in the plan terms, the only exception. A £95 call-out fee applies in the cases set out in the plan terms. Once you use a service, a 12-month agreement period begins.
Intergas Xtreme and Xclusive fault codes
These are the codes on the Intergas Xtreme 24, 30 and 36 and the Xclusive 24, 30 and 36. Both installation manuals print the same table, and all 22 labelled codes are below with the causes Intergas prints against each one. F010 and F011 share a single entry in the manual, so they share one row here.

Intergas HRE, ECO RF, Rapid and Compact HRE OV codes
These are the one- and two-digit numbers on the Combi Compact HRE 24/18, 28/24, 36/30 and 36/40, the Combi Compact ECO RF 24, 30 and 36, the Rapid 25 and 32, and the Compact HRE OV 18, 24 and 30. All four installation manuals print the same table, so one list covers the lot.
Two points before you read it. First, several third-party sites split 10 to 14 and 20 to 24 into five separate faults each and invent a distinct meaning for every number. Intergas does not do that: it groups them. Second, 0.0 and 5 appear on the HRE, ECO RF and Rapid tables but not on the Compact HRE OV table.

Which Intergas faults can I safely deal with myself?
Four checks are genuinely homeowner work on an Intergas boiler, and none of them mean opening the casing.
1. Low water pressure. On an HRE, ECO RF or Rapid this shows as 0.0. On an Xtreme or Xclusive it is not a fault code at all: the pressure sits on the left display, and those manuals say that below 0.5 bar the display flashes during a central heating demand, and below 0.2 bar the demand is no longer met. Either way, top up through the filling loop while the system is cold. The Xtreme and Xclusive manuals say between 1 and 1.5 bar; the HRE and Rapid manuals say between 1 and 2 bar for a cold system. If the pressure drops again within days, you have a leak or a failed expansion vessel, and that needs an engineer.
2. Air in the system. F001 on an Xtreme or Xclusive, and code 1 on the two-digit ranges, both list air or poor circulation as a cause. Bleeding the radiators and making sure the radiator valves are actually open is safe, sensible and often enough. Be careful with one piece of wording: where Intergas prints venting the boiler against codes 10 to 14, it means the manual air vent inside the boiler casing, which is engineer work, not bleeding your radiators.
3. A frozen condensate pipe. F004 and F005 both list a blocked or frozen condensation drain, and so does code 5 on the HRE, ECO RF and Rapid ranges. In cold weather the white plastic pipe running outside from the boiler can freeze solid, and thawing it gently with warm, not boiling, water is a normal homeowner job.
4. A blocked flue terminal. F018 is a flue or air supply duct blockage or restriction. Looking at the terminal on the outside wall for leaves, snow, a nest or plant growth costs nothing. Clearing anything inside the flue, or touching the seals and gaskets, is engineer work.
Resetting is the other common question. On an Xtreme or Xclusive you reset by touching the flashing service symbol and holding it for two seconds. Both manuals warn that a reset is not possible when a component is outside its tolerance values, and say that if the fault code reoccurs an Intergas trained engineer should be requested. On the HRE, ECO RF, Rapid and Compact HRE OV ranges you press the reset key on the operating panel once the fault has been rectified. Either way, reset once, and if the same number returns, stop.
Everything else on the two tables above is engineer work. The sensors, the fan, the PCB, the boiler memory module, the ionisation pin, the gas valve and the flue all sit inside the casing, and several of them are gas components.
When to call a Gas Safe registered engineer
Call an engineer for any code touching gas, the burner or combustion. On an Xtreme or Xclusive that means F004, F005, F006 and F029. On the two-digit ranges it means 4, 5, 6, 29 and 30. Also call if a code returns after one reset, or if the boiler locks out repeatedly over a day or two. Anyone working on the gas side of your boiler must be Gas Safe registered, and you can check that yourself on the Gas Safe Register.
If you smell gas or suspect a gas leak, do not wait for an appointment. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately, and make that call from a location away from the leak. The Intergas manuals set out the same procedure: do not smoke, use a lighter or strike matches; do not operate electrical switches, unplug equipment, use the telephone or ring doorbells; turn off the gas at the meter or regulator; open windows and doors; warn your neighbours and leave the building. If your boiler runs on LPG, call the supplier's number on the side of the gas tank or cylinder.

One thing to be clear about before you sign up: cover is for future breakdowns, not for a fault your boiler is already showing. An Intergas code on the display today counts as pre-existing and would not be covered, so book a one-off repair for that one.

Why does my Intergas boiler show a two-digit code instead of an F code?
Because of its control board. The Xtreme and Xclusive ranges show three-digit codes with an F prefix, and Intergas labels 22 of them between F000 and F031. The Combi Compact HRE, Combi Compact ECO RF, Rapid and Compact HRE OV ranges show one- and two-digit numbers instead. Both are normal fault codes, they just come from different generations of controller.
Does code 12 mean the same on every Intergas boiler?

What does 0.0 mean on an Intergas boiler?
Low pressure. It appears in the fault code table of the HRE, ECO RF and Rapid manuals, and the Rapid manual prints it as a pressure sensor fault. The listed remedies are to re-pressurise the central heating circuit through the filling loop, or, if that does not hold, a blocked pressure sensor, which is engineer work. Read it carefully on a small display: a plain 0 is a different code, sensor fault after self check, and that one is engineer work.
Can I reset my Intergas boiler after a fault code?
