What is boiler cover?

Boiler cover is a simple way to look after your boiler and central heating without worrying about the cost of a sudden breakdown. With Smart Plan boiler cover, parts and labour are included up to your cover limit, so if your boiler stops working we'll come and fix it for you.

Smart Plan is a service plan, not insurance. You build your own cover by choosing only the areas of your home you want to protect, so you don't pay for what you don't use. The boiler and central heating module covers your boiler and the things that keep you warm, and you can add other modules like plumbing, drainage or electrical whenever you like.

What's included in your boiler and central heating cover

When something covered goes wrong, we'll arrange a vetted, Gas Safe registered engineer to come and put it right. Parts and labour are included up to your cover limit for each 12-month period.

  • Parts and labour included up to your cover limit
  • An annual service on your boiler when your product includes one, to help keep it running safely
  • Cover for your hot water cylinder for a leak-related call-out, where it's listed on your cover sheet
  • The option to add other modules, like plumbing or drainage, so you only pay for the cover you want

Honest about the costs

We believe in being upfront. A £95 call-out fee, paid in advance before an engineer attends, applies in four situations: during the first 30 days of a new agreement; where the issue falls under an exclusion; where our engineer can't get access to your property; and if you request your annual service within the first 30 days. Your price for the cover itself is quoted when you build your plan, so you only ever pay for the modules you choose.

Monthly rolling cover

Smart Plan boiler cover is monthly rolling. Please note that once you use a service, a 12-month minimum agreement period begins, so it's not a case of leaving the moment you've had a repair. If you leave during that 12-month period, you'll need to pay the remaining monthly payments, or 75% of the outstanding balance as a one-off payment. You also have a 14-day cooling-off period when you first sign up, which ends if a service is carried out during that time. Our terms and conditions explain this in full.

A service plan, not insurance

Smart Plan is a service plan from UK Boiler Company Ltd, not insurance. It's a membership with cover you've chosen, rather than an insurance product, and we'll come and fix it for you when something covered goes wrong.

When we'll come out

Call-outs under your cover plan are carried out Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00, unless it's a genuine emergency breakdown. Smart Plan is rated Excellent on Trustpilot, and you can relax knowing that when something covered goes wrong, we'll be there to sort it out for you.

If you ever smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, leave it to the experts. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 straight away, and always use a Gas Safe registered engineer for any work on your boiler or gas appliances. Never attempt gas repairs yourself.

Who carries out the work?

Repairs are carried out by a national network of vetted, Gas Safe registered engineers across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. For any gas work, always use a Gas Safe registered engineer.
