Smart Plan cover terms at a glance
The terms behind every cover answer below. Smart Plan is a service plan from UK Boiler Company Ltd (company 09078640), not insurance, so it does not carry insurance-style protections.
- Cover limits per 12-month period: up to £500 on most modules, £225 per appliance, and boiler and central heating up to £500 when the boiler is under 7 years old or up to £200 when it is 7 years or older. You pay any shortfall above the limit.
- Cover-plan call-outs run Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00. If your boiler fails outside those hours, the earliest we can attend is the next working day.
- A £95 call-out fee, paid in advance, applies in defined cases: any call-out in the first 30 days of a new agreement, issues that fall under an exclusion, visits where our engineer cannot get access, and early annual-service requests. The first 30 days is a fee window, not a gap in cover.
- An annual service is not automatically included in cover, so arrange one separately unless your product includes it.
- One-off works run 09:00 to 17:00 and do not carry a workmanship guarantee, so they are not the same as cover.
- Billing is monthly, but a 12-month agreement period begins once you use a service. A 14-day cooling-off period applies from sign-up and ends if a service is carried out inside it.
- Leaving during the agreement period costs the remaining monthly payments, or 75% of the outstanding balance as a one-off.

Which Ideal boiler should I choose for my home?
The right Ideal model depends on your home rather than the badge: the number of bathrooms you have, your hot water demand, whether you already have a cylinder, and the space for the unit. A combi suits most smaller homes with one bathroom, while a system or heat-only boiler usually suits larger homes. Ask a Gas Safe registered engineer to size it properly before you buy.
What is the difference between the Ideal Classic and the Ideal Instinct?
They are different generations, and neither is in Ideal's current line-up, so this is not a choice you make when buying new. The Classic is the older range, sold in both heat-only and combi versions, including non-condensing models that were withdrawn once condensing boilers became compulsory for new gas installations. The Instinct is the later of the two and was a condensing combi. Ideal now sells the Logic Max and Vogue Max ranges.
How long is the warranty on a new Ideal boiler?
Warranty length varies by Ideal model and by the installer, so check the figure quoted for the exact boiler you are buying. Manufacturer warranties normally need registering soon after installation and an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer, with the paperwork kept as proof. Ideal Heating publishes the current terms on its own site, and your installer should confirm them in writing.
Are Ideal boilers reliable?
We do not rank brands, because how a boiler is sized, fitted and serviced matters more than the badge. Ideal has built boilers in Hull since 1906, and its Logic Max and Vogue Max ranges are widely fitted, so parts are easy to source. The faults engineers see most on condensing combis are pressure loss, ignition problems and blocked condensate pipes, whatever the brand. Read the model review and the warranty terms before you buy.
Can I get cover for an older Ideal boiler?
Yes, in most cases. The boiler must be working when the plan starts, because a fault it already has counts as pre-existing. If it is 7 years or older, the boiler module contributes up to £200 towards parts and labour in a 12-month period; under 7 years old that rises to £500, and you pay anything above that. Who is allowed to install an Ideal boiler?
A gas boiler must be installed by a Gas Safe registered engineer. That is UK law, not just a manufacturer condition. It matters for the warranty too, because Ideal expects the boiler to be commissioned and registered by a Gas Safe engineer.
