Smart Plan cover terms at a glance

The terms behind every cover answer below. Smart Plan is a service plan from UK Boiler Company Ltd (company 09078640), not insurance, so it does not carry insurance-style protections.

  • Cover limits per 12-month period: up to £500 on most modules, £225 per appliance, and boiler and central heating up to £500 when the boiler is under 7 years old or up to £200 when it is 7 years or older. You pay any shortfall above the limit.
  • Cover-plan call-outs run Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00. If your boiler fails outside those hours, the earliest we can attend is the next working day.
  • A £95 call-out fee, paid in advance, applies in defined cases: any call-out in the first 30 days of a new agreement, issues that fall under an exclusion, visits where our engineer cannot get access, and early annual-service requests. The first 30 days is a fee window, not a gap in cover.
  • An annual service is not automatically included in cover, so arrange one separately unless your product includes it.
  • One-off works run 09:00 to 17:00 and do not carry a workmanship guarantee, so they are not the same as cover.
  • Billing is monthly, but a 12-month agreement period begins once you use a service. A 14-day cooling-off period applies from sign-up and ends if a service is carried out inside it.
  • Leaving during the agreement period costs the remaining monthly payments, or 75% of the outstanding balance as a one-off.
  • Exclusions apply and are set out in our terms and conditions.

Ideal boiler help FAQs

Where does an Ideal boiler show its fault code?

On the display panel on the front of the boiler, where the code replaces the usual temperature or status reading. Ideal codes are normally a letter and a number, such as L2 or F2, and some models show a status number on its own instead. Write the exact code down before you reset anything, then open the guide above that matches it.

What pressure should my Ideal boiler be at?

Most Ideal boilers are set to sit at roughly 1 to 1.5 bar on the gauge when the heating is cold, rising slightly once the system warms up. Your model's manual gives the exact figure, so check that before you top up. If the pressure keeps falling back down after every top-up, there is usually a leak or a failed part behind it, which needs a Gas Safe registered engineer.

How do I find out which Ideal boiler model I have?

Look at the front casing for the range name, such as Logic, Vogue, Classic or Instinct, then open the front flap or lower door to find the data badge carrying the full model name and serial number. Photograph that badge. You will need those details to pick the right manual, order the correct spare part, and give an engineer accurate information when you book.

Is an Ideal boiler warranty the same as a service plan?

No. An Ideal warranty comes from the manufacturer and covers manufacturing faults on a boiler that was registered and serviced on time, for a period that varies by model. Smart Plan is a service plan, not insurance: it arranges a Gas Safe registered engineer and contributes towards the repair, up to a cash limit in each 12-month period, with you paying anything above that. Full cover terms are set out on this page.

Does Smart Plan cover repairs to an Ideal boiler?

Yes, under the boiler and central heating module. Cover contributes towards parts and labour up to £500 in a 12-month period if your boiler is under 7 years old, or £200 if it is 7 years or older, and you pay anything above that. Cover-plan appointments run Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00. Full cover terms are set out on this page.

Where can I get the manual for my Ideal boiler?

Ideal publishes user and installation documents for its current and older ranges on its own website, listed by model name. Our Ideal boiler manuals page links straight through to them, so you can go from the model on your data badge to the right document. The user guide covers controls, resetting and pressure; installation documents are written for engineers, not householders.
