Help with your Ideal boiler

Ideal is one of the UK's best-known boiler brands. Whether you're choosing a new model, decoding a fault, or checking what your warranty covers, the guides below have you covered.

Whatever your Ideal boiler, Smart Plan can help with breakdowns and repairs on the parts in your plan, up to your yearly cover limit. Smart Plan is a service plan, not insurance, delivered through a national network of thousands of Gas Safe registered engineers.

Smart Plan cover terms at a glance

The terms behind every cover answer below. Smart Plan is a service plan from UK Boiler Company Ltd (company 09078640), not insurance, so it does not carry insurance-style protections.

  • Cover limits per 12-month period: up to £500 on most modules, £225 per appliance, and boiler and central heating up to £500 when the boiler is under 7 years old or up to £200 when it is 7 years or older. You pay any shortfall above the limit.
  • Cover-plan call-outs run Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00. If your boiler fails outside those hours, the earliest we can attend is the next working day.
  • A £95 call-out fee, paid in advance, applies in defined cases: any call-out in the first 30 days of a new agreement, issues that fall under an exclusion, visits where our engineer cannot get access, and early annual-service requests. The first 30 days is a fee window, not a gap in cover.
  • An annual service is not automatically included in cover, so arrange one separately unless your product includes it.
  • One-off works run 09:00 to 17:00 and do not carry a workmanship guarantee, so they are not the same as cover.
  • Billing is monthly, but a 12-month agreement period begins once you use a service. A 14-day cooling-off period applies from sign-up and ends if a service is carried out inside it.
  • Leaving during the agreement period costs the remaining monthly payments, or 75% of the outstanding balance as a one-off.
  • Exclusions apply and are set out in our terms and conditions.

Ideal boiler FAQs

Who makes Ideal boilers?

Ideal boilers are made by Ideal Heating, a British manufacturer based in Hull that has been building heating products since 1906. Ideal Heating is part of Groupe Atlantic. The brand spans combi, system and heat-only models across several ranges, which is why our guides are split into model reviews, fault code help, warranty details and contact numbers.

How long does an Ideal boiler usually last?

Most domestic gas boilers, Ideal models included, are expected to last around 10 to 15 years, and how well the system is looked after makes the biggest difference. An annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer, correct system pressure and clean system water all help. If yours is near 15 years old and needs repeated repairs, replacing it may work out better value.

Does an Ideal boiler have to be serviced by Ideal?

In most cases, no. Ideal's terms require a service every 12 months by a Gas Safe registered engineer, recorded in the Benchmark logbook, rather than naming a particular company. Some installer-backed extended guarantees add their own conditions, so check the paperwork supplied with your boiler before you book. Keep every service record, because Ideal can ask for it if you make a warranty claim.

Can I fix an Ideal boiler fault myself?

Only the simple, non-gas checks. You can look at the thermostat, the programmer, the gas and electricity supply and the pressure gauge, and you can top up pressure using the filling loop if your manual explains how. Anything involving the gas circuit, the flue or internal components needs a Gas Safe registered engineer. If you smell gas, call the Gas Emergency Services line on 0800 111 999.

What is the difference between an Ideal warranty and boiler cover?

An Ideal warranty covers manufacturing faults in the boiler itself, on Ideal's own terms, and it ends on a set date. Smart Plan is a service plan, not insurance: it arranges a Gas Safe registered engineer for breakdowns and repairs on the parts in your plan, and contributes towards the cost up to a cash limit in each 12-month period, with you paying anything above that. Full cover terms are set out on this page.

Does Smart Plan cover Ideal boilers?

Yes. Any domestic gas Ideal boiler can go on a plan, provided it is working when the plan starts and parts are still available. Cover contributes towards parts and labour up to £500 in a 12-month period if the boiler is under 7 years old, or £200 if it is 7 years or older, and you pay anything above that. Full cover terms are set out on this page.
