Home electrical cover, built your way
Who turned off the lights? Add the electrical module to your Smart Plan and we'll come and fix it for you. Pick only the cover you want.
What is home electrical cover?
Home electrical cover is the electrical module of your Smart Plan. It's a service plan, not insurance, that looks after the permanent wiring and fittings inside your home. If a socket stops working, your fuse box trips out or a light fitting fails, you don't have to worry about finding someone you can trust or facing a surprise bill. We'll come and fix it for you, with parts and labour included up to your cover limit.
Smart Plan is modular, so you build your own cover and pick only the areas of your home you want to protect. Don't pay for what you don't use. The electrical module sits alongside boiler, plumbing, drainage, appliance, pest and security cover, and you choose the mix that suits your home.
A service plan, not insurance
Smart Plan is a service plan, not insurance. There's no insurance policy and no repair paperwork. When something goes wrong you simply request a repair and we arrange a visit from our national network of vetted, qualified engineers. Smart Plan is a trading style of UK Boiler Company Ltd.
What your electrical cover includes
Your electrical module covers the home's permanent wiring on supplies up to 240V, along with the fittings most likely to give you trouble. Parts and labour are included up to a £500 cover limit for each 12-month period.
Covered under the electrical module
Your electrical cover can help with:
- Your fuse box (consumer unit), light fittings, switches, sockets and isolation switches
- Hard-wired doorbells, smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms
- An electrical extractor fan up to 150mm
- The immersion heater timer switch and its wiring
- Faults in the permanent wiring of your home, on a supply not exceeding 240V
What home electrical cover does not include
So you know exactly where you stand, here's what falls outside the electrical module. It doesn't cover light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, decorative fittings or plug fuses, and it doesn't cover the earth rod or earth bonding. The electrics inside a shower unit, the wiring of an appliance beyond its isolation switch, and the supply wire feeding the fuse box are all excluded, as are burglar alarms, camera systems and rewiring a circuit that wasn't fit for purpose. Cover applies only to the modules listed on your cover sheet, so the electrical module needs to be on your plan for these repairs to apply. You can read the full list of inclusions and exclusions in our terms and conditions.

Electrical safety comes first
Electricity can be dangerous, so please don't try to repair wiring, your fuse box or any fixed electrics yourself. If you can smell burning, see scorch marks, or a socket or switch feels hot, switch off the power at the consumer unit if it's safe to reach and keep everyone away from the area. Then request a repair through your Smart Plan and we'll send a qualified electrician to make it safe.
Electrical work on fixed wiring should always be carried out by a qualified, competent electrician. You can check that an electrician is registered with a government-approved competent person scheme on gov.uk.
How home electrical cover works
Getting covered takes a few minutes. Choose the areas of your home you'd like to protect in our online wizard, add the electrical module, and you're covered. If an electrical fault appears, request a repair and we'll arrange for one of our vetted, qualified engineers to attend. Call-outs run Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00, unless it's a genuine emergency breakdown.
Smart Plan is monthly rolling cover. There's some honest small print to be aware of: once you use a service, a 12-month minimum agreement period begins, and ending the plan early during that period means paying the remaining months or 75% of the outstanding balance. You also have a 14-day cooling-off period from the start of your plan, which ends the moment a service is carried out.
Home electrical cover FAQs
Is home electrical cover insurance?
No. Smart Plan is a service plan, not insurance, so there's no insurance policy involved. You add the electrical module to your plan and, if something goes wrong, you request a repair and we arrange a visit from a qualified engineer.
What's the cover limit on the electrical module?
The electrical module includes parts and labour up to £500 for each 12-month period. This applies to the permanent wiring and fittings in your home on a supply not exceeding 240V.
Does the electrical module cover my fuse box?
Yes. Your fuse box (consumer unit), along with sockets, switches, light fittings and isolation switches, is covered under the electrical module. The supply wire feeding the fuse box and the earth rod or bonding are not covered.
Is there a call-out fee?
A £95 call-out fee applies in the first 30 days of a new plan, if the issue falls under an exclusion, or if our engineer can't get access to the property. It's paid in advance of the visit.
What hours do you carry out call-outs?
Cover-plan call-outs are carried out Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:00, unless it's an emergency breakdown.
Can I just buy electrical cover on its own?
Yes. Smart Plan is modular, so you can pick only the electrical module, or combine it with boiler, plumbing, drainage, appliance, pest and security cover. You build your own cover and only pay for what you choose.
Should I try to fix an electrical fault myself?
No. Electrical work on fixed wiring should always be left to a qualified electrician. Don't attempt repairs to your wiring or fuse box. Request a repair through your Smart Plan and we'll send a qualified engineer.
How long is the agreement?
Smart Plan is monthly rolling cover. Once you use a service, a 12-month minimum agreement period begins. Ending the plan early during that period means paying the remaining months or 75% of the outstanding balance.
