What is home security cover?

Home security cover is the part of your Smart Plan that helps when you're locked out, a lock gives up, or a door or window is damaged in a break-in. It's a service plan, not insurance, so there's no policy to wrestle with. You pick the cover you want, and if something goes wrong, we'll come and fix it for you.

Like every Smart Plan module, you build your own cover and pick only what you want. Don't pay for what you don't use. Home security cover gives you up to £500 of parts and labour in a 12-month period for the work it covers, so you can relax knowing you're covered.

A service plan, not insurance

Smart Plan is a service plan, not insurance. The agreement is not a contract of insurance, a guarantee or an insurance policy. There's no repair paperwork to wrestle with — you simply request a repair and we arrange for an engineer to attend.

What home security cover includes

Your security cover helps with the everyday lock, key, door and window problems that leave a home unsafe, including:

  • Emergency access if you're locked out and have no other way into your home
  • Repairing or replacing locks and keys where a key has snapped or been lost and you have no spare
  • Boarding up a broken window or door to make your home safe after damage
  • Making safe a garage door, where the garage gives direct access into your home

How home security cover works

When something goes wrong, you let us know and we arrange for an engineer from our national network of vetted, qualified engineers to attend. Parts and labour are included up to your £500 cover limit for the work your plan covers. Your plan is monthly rolling, but please note that once you use a service a 12-month minimum agreement period begins. Call-outs are carried out Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm, unless it's an emergency breakdown.

Smart Plan is a trading style of UK Boiler Company Ltd, and we're rated Excellent on Trustpilot. Home security cover is one of the modules you can add to your plan, alongside boiler, plumbing, drainage, electrical, appliances and pest control cover.

Being honest about the £95 call-out fee

We believe in being upfront about fees. A £95 call-out fee applies during the first 30 days of a new agreement, if the issue you report falls under an exclusion, if our engineer can't get access, and if you request an early annual service. We'll always tell you before any fee applies.

Stay safe and call a qualified professional

If you've had a break-in, your first call should always be to the police. For electrical security such as hard-wired alarms or doorbells, never attempt repairs yourself, as electrical wiring can be dangerous. Always use a suitably qualified professional, and for anything involving gas or a smell of gas call the Gas Emergency Services on 0800 111 999.

When can an engineer come out?

What isn't covered by home security cover?

Home security cover doesn't include outbuildings, sheds or garages without direct access to your home, replacing keys where you already have a spare, doors that have another lockable access point, internal doors and windows not used to secure your home, or warped and swollen doors and windows. Burglar alarms and camera systems sit outside the electrical cover too.

Can I add home security cover on its own?

Yes. With Smart Plan you build your own cover and pick only the areas you want, so you can add home security cover on its own or alongside other modules. Don't pay for what you don't use.

Is this a monthly rolling plan?

Your plan is monthly rolling. Please note that once you use a service, a 12-month minimum agreement period begins, and ending it early during that period means paying the remaining months or 75% of the outstanding balance. Full details are in our terms and conditions.
