Emergency electrician call-out
Lost power, a tripping fuse box or a socket that's stopped working? We'll get a qualified electrician out to take a look. Call us first.
Get a qualified electrician out to your home
If you need an emergency electrician, the quickest way to get help is to call us on 0333 772 6247. We'll arrange a one-off visit from a qualified electrician who can find the fault and put it right. There's no plan to join — just a single one-off call-out to sort the problem.
This is a one-off, paid repair. We charge a £95 call-out fee for the visit, and we'll be straight with you about anything else before any work goes ahead. One-off electrical work is carried out Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00.
Common electrical faults we get called out to
Some electrical problems can wait for a normal appointment. Others feel urgent because part of your home has stopped working. Here are the faults we're called out to most often:
When to call an electrician
- Power not working in part or all of your home, and the trip won't stay on
- A fuse box (consumer unit) that keeps tripping or won't reset
- Sockets or light switches that have stopped working, feel warm or look scorched
- A burning smell, buzzing or sparking from a socket, switch or the fuse box
- Lights flickering, dimming or failing across more than one room
- A leak or burst pipe near electrics — switch off at the fuse box and call us
What to do before the electrician arrives
If something feels dangerous, keep yourself safe and leave the work to a professional. Don't open up sockets, the fuse box or any wiring yourself — electrical DIY can be dangerous, and it's the kind of job to leave to a qualified electrician.
If a single circuit has tripped, you can try switching it back on once at the fuse box. If it trips straight away again, leave it off — that usually means there's a fault to find. Unplug anything that was in use when the power went, as a faulty appliance is a common cause. If you can smell burning or see scorching, switch off at the fuse box if it's safe to reach and call us.
Smell gas or worried about your boiler?
Electrical faults and heating faults can feel similar, but they're not the same job. If you can smell gas, or you're dealing with a boiler or gas appliance, this isn't a job for an electrician. Call the national Gas Emergency Service free on 0800 111 999 straight away, and book a Gas Safe registered engineer for the repair. Never try to fix a gas appliance yourself — at most, you can check the thermostat, the pressure or the reset button by following your boiler's manual.
What the call-out costs
A one-off emergency electrician visit carries a £95 call-out fee, paid in advance. The electrician will look at the fault and explain what's needed before doing any chargeable work, so you're never caught out. One-off work doesn't come with a workmanship guarantee — if you'd like ongoing cover for your home's electrics, our Smart Plan electrical cover is a better fit (more on that below).

Emergency electrician — your questions answered
How do I get an emergency electrician out?
Call us on 0333 772 6247 and we'll arrange a one-off visit from a qualified electrician. One-off electrical work is carried out Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00.
How much does an electrician call-out cost?
There's a £95 call-out fee for a one-off visit, paid in advance. The electrician will explain what the repair involves and what it costs before doing any chargeable work, so there are no surprises.
My power isn't working — what should I do first?
Check your fuse box. If a circuit has tripped, try switching it back on once. If it trips again straight away, leave it off and call us — that usually points to a fault. Unplug anything that was running when the power went, as a faulty appliance is a common cause. Don't open up sockets or wiring yourself.
My fuse box keeps tripping. Is that an emergency?
A consumer unit that won't stay on means a circuit has a fault, and it's worth getting looked at quickly. Avoid forcing it back on repeatedly. Call us and we'll get a qualified electrician out to find the cause.
Can I fix electrical problems myself?
It's best not to. You can safely try resetting a tripped circuit once at the fuse box and unplugging appliances, but anything beyond that — opening sockets, switches or the fuse box — should be left to a qualified electrician.
I think the problem is my boiler, not electrics. Who do I call?
If you can smell gas, call the Gas Emergency Service free on 0800 111 999 right away. For a boiler or gas appliance fault, book a Gas Safe registered engineer rather than an electrician. You can check your boiler's thermostat, pressure or reset button using its manual, but never attempt a gas repair yourself.
Is there a guarantee on a one-off repair?
One-off work doesn't come with a workmanship guarantee. If you'd like ongoing cover for your electrics — parts and labour up to £500 in a 12-month period — take a look at Smart Plan's electrical cover.
