Smell gas?

If you think there is a gas leak or a carbon monoxide emergency, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999

After you have made the call, follow these steps:

  1. Open doors and windows
  2. Turn off your gas supply at the meter (unless the meter is in a cellar or basement)
  3. Do NOT use electric switches or naked flames
  4. Contact a Gas Safe registered engineer to check and fix the appliance as soon as you can

Frequently asked questions

Is Smart Plan Baxi's customer service?

No. Smart Plan is a home service plan from UK Boiler Company Ltd (company number 09078640), and it is not owned by or affiliated with Baxi. Baxi's own contact details are published here for convenience. A warranty repair or a warranty decision on a Baxi boiler is Baxi's to make, so those go to Baxi. A repair on a boiler that is out of warranty can be booked through us instead.

My Baxi boiler has stopped working. Who should I contact first?

Baxi, if the boiler is still under warranty, because a repair Baxi accepts as a warranty fault is not charged to you. If it is out of warranty, any Gas Safe registered engineer can attend. Check for danger before anything else: if you can smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, leave the appliance alone and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. Have the reading on the display and the boiler's serial number ready when you book.

Is Baxi's technical support line for homeowners or engineers?

For engineers. Baxi publishes that number for installers and Gas Safe registered engineers working on an appliance, and homeowners with a repair, warranty or general query are served by Baxi's customer support route. If you want a technical answer rather than a booking, ask the Gas Safe registered engineer attending your boiler: they can quote the model and the reading on the display, which is what the technicians need.

What can I do if my Baxi boiler breaks down at the weekend?

If the boiler is still under warranty, Baxi's own customer support line runs at the weekend and on bank holidays, 8.30am to 2pm, so start there. Out of warranty, a Gas Safe registered engineer is the route. With a Smart Plan cover plan, call-outs are booked Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00, and we aim to get an engineer out to you within two working days, with a genuine emergency breakdown treated separately under the plan terms.

Once the Baxi warranty has ended, who pays for a breakdown repair?

You do, unless you hold a cover plan that includes the repair. With Smart Plan's boiler and central heating module, parts and labour are included up to £500 in any 12-month period for a boiler under seven years old, and £200 for one over seven. Cover applies from day one. A £95 call-out fee applies in defined situations, including call-outs in your first 30 days, excluded issues and no-access visits.
