What is a boiler warranty?
A boiler warranty is an assurance made by the boiler manufacturer that if anything goes wrong with the boiler during the warranty period, they will send out an engineer to investigate the problem and, if they deem it a manufacturing fault, they will repair it, subject to the terms and conditions.
A boiler warranty may only cover certain parts of the boiler and may not cover the cost of labour if a repair is needed.
What is a boiler guarantee?
A boiler guarantee is similar to a warranty but covers the whole boiler and its parts, and there will be no extra costs for parts or labour in the event of a fault or boiler breakdown as the manufacturer has made a promise that their product should last the duration of the guarantee and if not, they will fix the issue free of charge.
Do I have a boiler warranty or guarantee?
Whether you have a boiler warranty or a guarantee simply depends on whichever one the manufacturer is offering with their boilers.
Typically, boilers come with a warranty but some manufacturers offer guarantees as an added selling point as guarantees cover your whole boiler and the labour costs should you need a repair, whereas warranties do not.
Boiler manufacturers often attach a sticker to their boilers to highlight key information, including whether they’re offering a warranty or guarantee and its duration, as it is often a major factor for customers when purchasing a new boiler. You will also find this information explicitly stated within the written description of the boiler advertisement.
Boiler guarantees and warranties share similarities such as;
- They both come as standard with every newly installed boiler
- They both vary in length of cover and can be extended if certain conditions are met
- They're both intended to give the owner of a newly installed boiler peace of mind in knowing that if something goes wrong as the result of a manufacturing fault, they will fix the issue
If you’re unsure whether your current boiler is under warranty or guarantee, simply head over to your boiler’s manufacturer’s website, where you will be able to type in your boiler’s serial number to find out whether it is under warranty or guarantee and its expiry date.
What does my Baxi warranty cover?
Whether you have a combination boiler, a system boiler or a heat only (regular) boiler, your Baxi warranty will cover any faulty parts within the boiler and its integrated controls, and the cost of labour to fix the fault. In simple terms, it covers whatever comes inside your newly purchased Baxi boiler. If a fault occurs with any of the boiler’s parts and you have complied with the terms and conditions of your Baxi warranty, Baxi will send out an engineer to replace the faulty parts, free of charge.
Your Baxi warranty will of course cover you in the event of a boiler breakdown, however, Baxi may ask you to put down a deposit before they visit you to repair the boiler. The deposit will be returned to you in full if Baxi finds a fault that is covered by your Baxi warranty.
What doesn't my Baxi warranty cover?
Your Baxi warranty does not cover:
- Any connected system or accessories such as time switches, thermostats, motorised valves, external pumps, external expansion vessels and so on
- Boilers that have been moved from their original place of installation
- Any boiler repairs required as a result of something other than a boiler fault or failure
- Any problems caused by inadequate supply of services such as gas, electricity or water to the property
- Any damage caused by hard water scale deposits or sludge resulting from corrosion
- Costs of your annual service, including parts such as seals or electrodes being replaced
How long does a Baxi warranty last?
Every new Baxi boiler comes with a 1 year Baxi warranty as standard. However, depending on the model of your boiler, Baxi offers extended warranties ranging from 2-10 years.
You can extend your Baxi warranty by following these three steps
- Either you or the Baxi boiler installer must register your warranty with Baxi within 30 days of the boiler installation
- Make sure your Baxi boiler is installed by a Gas Safe registered engineer who must complete a benchmark commissioning checklist.
- You must service your boiler once a year and your boiler service must be carried out by a Gas Safe engineer in line with the manufacturer's instructions.
Failure to meet the above requirements will revert your warranty to 12 months from the date of installation.
Give your boiler a service.
Make sure you don't invalidate your warranty. Call Smart Plan to get a boiler checkup to see if everything is in good working order.
