What is a combi boiler?

A combi boiler combines a water heater and a central heating boiler into one highly-efficient compact appliance (thus the name). A combi boiler uses the mains water pressure to supply both hot water and heating upon demand. This eliminates the need for bulky cylinders, making a combination boiler a popular choice for homes with limited space.

Although most Worcester Bosch combi boilers are wall-mounted and are often small enough to fit inside a kitchen cabinet, some are designed to stand on the floor and can be placed outside.

Are Worcester Bosch combi boilers energy efficient?

Worcester Bosch combi boilers are very efficient units, all within the 'A' efficiency category, which means they have an energy efficiency of 92% or higher. In financial terms, a rating of 92% means that for every £1 you spend on energy to heat your home, 8p of that is lost to the heating process.

Traditional boilers generally have lower efficiency rates than combi boilers, meaning increased energy costs. Combi boilers allow you to save money as they heat water in small quantities, compared to traditional boilers that require you to heat up an entire cylinder full of water just to wash your hands!

What homes are combi boilers best suited for?

Although Worcester Bosch Combi Boiler range is wide enough to ensure comfort for homes of all shapes and sizes, combi boilers are generally best suited for properties with little loft space and moderate hot water demands. Continue reading to find the right sized Worcester Bosch Combi boiler for your property.

What size combi boiler do I need for my home?

Below is a rough guide to how powerful your boiler should be to efficiently heat different sized properties. Use these values to estimate the recommended energy output of your Worcester Bosch combi boiler.

Property Type No. of Bathrooms No. of Radiators Recommended energy output Recommended hot water flow rate
Small house or flat 1 Up to 10 24-27 kW 9-12 litres/minute
Medium house 1 or 2 Up to 15 28-34 kW 12-16 litres/minute
Large house 2+ Up to 25 35-45 kW 16+ litres/minute

Choosing a combi boiler with the right energy output will ensure comfort in your home and will help you avoid unnecessary energy costs. Higher energy outputs also provide better hot water flow rates, which makes combi boilers with higher kW more suitable for houses with more than one bathroom.
