How to check your Ideal boiler warranty
The quickest way to check an Ideal boiler warranty is to call Ideal Heating on 01482 498660 with your boiler serial number to hand. Ideal publishes an online registration form and does not advertise a public warranty checker, so calling 01482 498660 is the reliable way to confirm whether your boiler is registered and how long the cover runs.
Have these two things ready before you call:
- The boiler serial number. Ideal says it "can be found either underneath or on top of your boiler", usually on a barcoded sticker. It is also written on the Benchmark certificate your installer completed.
- The installation date. The warranty runs from the date of installation, and that date is recorded on the Benchmark commissioning sheet kept with the boiler manual.
Ideal's customer service lines are open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm and Sunday 8am to 12 noon, excluding Bank Holidays. Their full contact details are on our Ideal contact numbers page.
Three other ways to check
- Find the registration confirmation. If you or your installer registered the boiler, Ideal will have confirmed it. Search your email for "Ideal" around the installation date.
- Ask the installer who fitted it. Installers register warranties through their Installer Connect account and can tell you whether they did it.
- Read the Benchmark certificate. It will not prove registration on its own, but it gives you the installation date and the model, which is what Ideal needs to look you up.
If you have just bought the house, the boiler warranty does not automatically follow you. Our guide to transferring a boiler warranty to a new owner explains what to ask the seller for.
How long is an Ideal boiler warranty?
Ideal states that its boiler warranties vary between 2 and 12 years, depending on the model. The catch is registration: Ideal says the warranty "may be limited to 12 months if you don't register it within 30 days of installation".
These are the warranty lengths Ideal currently publishes for its domestic range.
| Ideal boiler | Published warranty |
|---|---|
| Vogue Max Combi, Vogue Max System | 12 years |
| Logic Max Combi, Logic Max System, Logic Max Heat | 10 years |
| Vogue Gen2 Combi, Vogue Gen2 System | 10 years |
| Logic+ Combi, Logic+ System, Logic+ Heat | 7 years, plus 10 years on the heat exchanger |
| Logic Heat, Mexico HE | 2 years |
| Logic Combi ESP1, Logic Code Combi ESP1, Logic System | Flexible warranty options, confirmed at the point of sale |
Ideal describes the Logic Max Combi as having "a 10 year parts and labour warranty available when registered within 30 days of installation and serviced annually", and the Vogue Max Combi as having "a 12 year parts and labour warranty" on the same conditions. Ideal's Max Confidence terms add that the 12 year figure applies to a Vogue Max "installed by a MAX accredited installer".
So the short answer to the two most common versions of this question: a Logic Max is a 10 year boiler warranty, and a Vogue Max is a 12 year boiler warranty, in both cases only if it was registered inside 30 days and is serviced every year.
How to register an Ideal boiler warranty
Registration is free, and you must do it within 30 days of installation. Ideal puts it plainly: "It's important that the warranty on your Ideal boiler is registered within 30 days of installation so that we can quickly and easily assist you should we need to."
There are three routes:
- Online. Use Ideal's own form at idealheating.com/register-warranty.
- By phone. Call Ideal Heating customer service on 01482 498660.
- Through your installer. Installers register through their Installer Connect account at installerconnect.com. Ideal notes that "if your installer has already registered your boiler warranty for you, you don't need to register it again", so check before you duplicate it.
You will need the serial number and the installation date, the same two details described above.
What if you missed the 30 days?
Ideal is direct about the consequence: "To qualify for the full guarantee the boiler must be registered within 30 days of installation. Should this condition not be met, the period of guarantee will be reduced to 12 months from the date of installation."
It is still worth calling 01482 498660. Ideal says it offers "a range of options to extend the warranty on your Ideal boiler", and its customer service team can tell you what is available for your model. If nothing can be reinstated, a boiler and central heating cover plan is one of the ways people bridge the gap instead.
What keeps an Ideal warranty valid
Most refused warranty repairs come down to paperwork rather than the boiler. Ideal's warranty terms set out four conditions.
- Correct installation. "The boiler must have been installed and commissioned within 12 months of manufacture by a registered Gas Safe installer."
- A completed Benchmark sheet. "The Benchmark commissioning sheet must be completed by the installer and left with the boiler for reference purposes."
- Registration inside 30 days of installation. Ideal's standard warranty terms and conditions add a further requirement for the Max range: "In the case of Max boilers both the boiler and included system filter need to be registered simultaneously. Should these conditions not be met then the period of warranty will extend to only 12 months from installation."
- An annual service. "At the end of each 12 month period following installation, the boiler must be serviced by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Should this condition not be met the boiler warranty will lapse." Miss a service and you are not left with 12 months of cover: Ideal's terms say the warranty lapses.
The annual service is the condition people quietly drop after two or three years, and it is the one that most often turns a free repair into a paid one. Keep every service record with the Benchmark sheet, because Ideal can ask for it. Only a Gas Safe registered engineer may work on your gas boiler.
If you smell gas or suspect a leak, do not touch the boiler. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999, which is open 24 hours a day.
What an Ideal warranty covers, and what it does not
An Ideal warranty covers the boiler itself. If the appliance suffers a mechanical or electrical breakdown caused by defective materials or workmanship, Ideal repairs or replaces it, parts and labour included, subject to the conditions above.
It does not cover your heating system. Ideal answers the question "Does my boiler warranty cover my system?" with: "No, the manufacturer's warranty only covers manufacturing issues with the appliance." Radiators, pipework, hot water cylinders, controls and the rest of the system sit outside it.
Ideal's terms also exclude defects caused by inadequate servicing, misuse or third-party interference, hard water scale deposits, sludge and corrosion, incorrect installation of the boiler, flue or condensate pipe, and failure to follow Ideal's warranty repair procedure.
When Ideal can charge you a call-out fee
Even inside the warranty period, Ideal's terms allow a call-out charge where:
- there is no completed Benchmark commissioning sheet;
- no fault is found;
- the breakdown was not caused by defective materials or workmanship;
- you do not cancel an arranged appointment before the engineer's visit;
- the boiler is out of warranty, or the warranty conditions have not been met.

How to book an Ideal warranty repair
Call Ideal Heating on 01482 498660. Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm, and Sunday 8am to 12 noon. Ideal will arrange for an engineer to inspect the fault and, if the terms have been met, repair it. Where a repair is not the best option, Ideal may replace the boiler instead.
Ideal's engineers will only attend where the installation does not pose a health and safety risk. Boilers in lofts need a permanently fixed access ladder, fixed flooring and adequate lighting, and cupboard installations must give the minimum working clearances set out in the installation instructions. Ideal does not accept responsibility for removing cupboards, kitchen units or trims to reach the boiler.
Before you call, note down any code showing on the display. Our Ideal fault code list explains what each one means, and some point to safe checks you can rule out yourself in a minute.
When your Ideal warranty ends
A 10 or 12 year warranty feels endless until the day it stops. Once it does, every repair is yours to pay for, and so is the annual service that was keeping it valid.
At that point most people pick one of three routes: pay per repair as faults come up, ask Ideal about the warranty extension options it offers, or take out a cover plan. Our article on what to do when a boiler warranty expires weighs those up honestly, and boiler warranty versus boiler cover explains where the two genuinely differ.
When the warranty runs out.
A Smart Plan cover plan is a service plan, not insurance. You pick only the cover you want. Parts and labour are included up to your plan limit, which for boiler and central heating is £500 if the boiler is under 7 years old, or £200 if it is over 7 years. A £95 call-out fee applies, and a 12-month agreement period begins once you use a service. We work with a national network of thousands of Gas Safe registered engineers and aim to get one out to you within two working days, with cover-plan call-outs booked Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00.
How Ideal compares with other boiler warranties
Ideal publishes 10 years on a Logic Max and 12 years on a Vogue Max, in both cases on the conditions set out above: registration within 30 days, an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and a completed Benchmark record. Worcester Bosch and Baxi also require registration and an annual service to keep their published guarantee lengths, as our Worcester Bosch guarantee and Baxi boiler warranty pages set out.
That means the number printed on the brochure is rarely what decides whether you get a free repair. The service history does.
Ideal boiler warranty questions
Can I check my Ideal boiler warranty online?
Not directly. Ideal publishes an online registration form and does not advertise a public warranty checker. To confirm what cover you have, call Ideal Heating on 01482 498660 with your serial number, or find the registration confirmation Ideal sent when the boiler was registered.
Where is the serial number on an Ideal boiler?
Ideal says the serial number "can be found either underneath or on top of your boiler", normally on a barcoded sticker. It is also recorded on the Benchmark certificate the installer completed, which is usually kept with the boiler manual.
What is the Ideal warranty phone number?
01482 498660. Lines are open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm and Sunday 8am to 12 noon. Use the same number to register a warranty, check one, or book a warranty repair.
How long is the Ideal Logic warranty?
It depends on the exact model. Ideal publishes 10 years for the Logic Max Combi, Logic Max System and Logic Max Heat, 7 years for the Logic+ range with 10 years on the heat exchanger, and 2 years for the Logic Heat. Logic Combi ESP1, Logic Code Combi ESP1 and Logic System are sold with flexible warranty options confirmed at the point of sale.
Is every Ideal combi boiler a 10 year warranty?
No. The Logic Max Combi and the Vogue Gen2 Combi carry 10 years, the Vogue Max Combi carries 12, and the Logic+ Combi carries 7 with a 10 year heat exchanger warranty. Registration inside 30 days and an annual service are required in every case.
Does an Ideal warranty include the annual service?
No. The service is a condition of the warranty, not a benefit of it. You arrange and pay for a service by a Gas Safe registered engineer once every 12 months, and keeping that record is what protects the free repairs.
What happens if my Ideal boiler was never registered?
Ideal reduces the guarantee period to 12 months from the date of installation if the boiler was not registered within 30 days. Call 01482 498660 anyway, because Ideal offers warranty extension options and can tell you what applies to your model.
Does the Ideal warranty transfer if I sell the house?
Ask Ideal directly on 01482 498660 before you rely on it, and get the Benchmark sheet and service records from the seller if you are buying.
If you would rather talk it through with a person, request a free callback and we will go through your options with you.
